Just over a mile away located on dry heathland at the south-west end
of Stapeley Hill sits the bronze age stone circle called Mitchells Fold.
Its doleritic stones came from nearby Stapeley Hill. In the beginning
there may have been some thirty stone pillars but many of them are
now missing and others are fallen. Local Folklore suggests this is the
actual place where King Arthur withdrew Excalibur from one of the
stones in the cirle and then became king of the Britains. |
